In 2022 there are expected to be 2.5 million weddings, the most weddings in one year since 1984! That’s the most in 38 years. And obviously with so many weddings comes a lot of 2022 wedding trends. 

As a wedding vendor, I see lots of trends as they start to form! And I already have a few favorites coming into 2022. I’ve noticed that many of the 2022 wedding trends are going in a new direction from what we’ve seen for years. It seems to have a higher focus on having fun and feeling free, and I’m here for it!

So what are these 2022 wedding trends?

COTTAGECORE / BRIDGERTON AESTHETICS WILL BE A HUGE 2022 WEDDING TREND!

When I first saw the visual aesthetic in the Netflix show, I knew it was going to be popping up in fashion and trends soon. I’m so glad it did! It’s a very distinguishable theme and so visually entrancing that you don’t have to worry about being memorable. Anyone who sees it will be captivated by the romance of the theme.

One of the best parts of this theme is that there are many ways of integrating it into your wedding. With so many aspects to choose from and delicate details, it’s no wonder we’ve fallen in love with the Georgian time. 

We can expect to see a lot of Regency Blue details, impressive floral arrangements, and purple Wisteria blossoms. Along with handwritten literary details, vintage table setting such as tea sets and jewel-toned glassware, and more. Even the wedding attire is expected to be influenced by this wedding theme. Such as empire waist wedding gowns, bridal gloves, and puff-sleeved dresses for the bride or bridesmaids. And of course, the wedding music has that timeless feel as well! Live music with beautiful instruments such as harps and string duos, trios, or quartets.

BOLD AND BRIGHT COLOURS

This wedding trend is more of a comeback, but it’s an exciting one! For years we’ve seen weddings fall into a neutral colour scheme with soft palettes. And while this isn’t going away, there is a new colour trend making its way to the forefront for 2022!

A return to bright colors, especially when it comes to floral decor! Couples are using bold colours in their wedding decor in such beautiful ways. There has been a lot of bold reds, oranges, purples, pinks, blues, and more recently! And lots of colour-coordinating by rising and matching it throughout the decor at the reception.

It’s a visual representation of feeling free after the chaos of the last two years in the whole world and within the wedding industry itself. I’m glad to see couples using colours to express themselves in ways we haven’t seen in decades.

We’ll be seeing a lot of vibrant pink-purples, earthy greens, creamy yellows. Tropical colours are also present, such as ocean blues, fresh greens, bubblegum pinks, and vivid corals. This wedding trend has mainly been seen in florals and decor. But we’re also seeing it in the wedding party attire, paired with fun textures or prints!

DESTINATION ELOPEMENT OR WEDDINGS IS ANOTHER BIG 2022 WEDDING TREND

This is a “leftover trend” courtesy of the pandemic and lockdowns. We’ve seen a lot of elopements or “minimonies” in the last 2 years to try to safely socially distance. A side effect of this was refocusing on the marriage of the couple more so than the party. 

This trend of elopements or destination weddings gained a lot of visibility! More and more couples have decided to go this route instead of the more traditional way. But in 2022 these types of weddings will have a fun twist added to them. 

Many couples have had to wait in limbo. Either reschedule the wedding or just put it off for the foreseeable future? So, when those weddings are safely back on, everyone will want to celebrate! 

Now that safely traveling is more of a possibility, couples are using their weddings as an all-around celebration. They are celebrating more than just their love story. They’re celebrating that they’re healthy, that their family and friends are healthy and can celebrate with them. The world is their oyster again and that’s worth celebrating to the absolute fullest! And for many couples, this means a destination wedding in beautiful, far-away locations.

VINTAGE-INSPIRED WEDDING RINGS

I love all these 2022 wedding trends but this one is such a favorite of mine! Not only is it sentimental but it’s also sustainable. Heirloom rings and vintage-inspired designs are making a comeback. We have grown more sentimental through the last few years for the styles of our grandparents and parents’ eras. And this has translated into looking for more sustainable ring options with a strong sentimental aspect.

There is a lot of Art Deco-style jewelry, old European cuts, and nontraditional colourful gemstones. 

The vintage style and vintage-look engagement rings are timelessly beautiful. This trend connects older styles with modern love stories by the jewelry worn. I love it when couples can integrate pieces of their lives into the details of their wedding day. Especially wedding rings because they will stay with you as a visual representation of your commitment. 

GARDEN AESTHETICS 

This is a very popular wedding aesthetic, and for good reason! It’s absolutely beautiful! It’s a true fairytale wedding feel, though not necessarily in the glam and glitz way. (Although you can still do that in this aesthetic!) This wedding trend brings the traditionalism of indoor weddings to an outdoor setting. This is in no way a new idea, we’ve seen tent weddings, barn weddings, and backyard weddings for years! But just as elopements had a refocusing this year, so did outdoor weddings. 

Because these aren’t the DIY weddings we’ve seen for years, these are much more. These garden aesthetic weddings are more on the elegant/secret garden style side. (Think Georgian period color schemes and soft textures with romantic lighting.) Beautiful estate venues just add to the elegant fairytale feel while still being grand and memorable.

If a grand estate venue isn’t your cup of tea, no worries, you can still choose this wedding aesthetic!

Just look for venues or locations with an open-air space that you can fully decorate from scratch! With the right idea (or wedding planner!) you can easily transform any space with simple touches of softness! Draping fabrics add in a whimsical, elegant vibe that these types of weddings embody so well!

Another reason why these weddings became so popular is that it’s still one of the safest ways of bringing lots of people together! This is something we are carrying over into 2022. The pandemics’ open-air policies are still in everyone’s mind, especially those planning events, such as weddings. The health and safety of the guests have been highly prioritized by couples and because of this, outdoor weddings are all the rage!
