Harpist Vs DJ

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the fun world of wedding planning! As I’m sure you’re aware, a lot of decision-making is involved in planning your wedding! What theme to go with? What color palette? Bridesmaid Dresses? Wedding planner? Groom attire? Wedding dress? Seating chart? Wedding musician vs DJ? Or, if you’ve found your way here, Harpist vs DJ? And that barely scratches the surface!

I’m not reminding you of all of this to add to your stress! I just understand that right now it can feel like you are just deciding one thing after another and I know it starts to feel like you are always on google, researching everything wedding-related. Even if you go into wedding planning with a solid ideal outcome, things are bound to change along the way! The biggest question I come across is who to hire for your wedding entertainment!

Honestly, it all comes down to what ambiance you want to create and your constraints! Regardless of which you decide to hire, just make sure they're able to incorporate the songs that you feel like you must have on the big day! What matters most on your day is that every moment of it represents you as a couple and your love story.

To Be Able to Fairly Decide “Harpist Vs DJ?” There Are 3 Main Points to Consider.

The first big thing to consider is the ambiance you want to create!

Music is powerful, everyone has songs that take them back to a moment in time, whether it’s a good moment or not. Music buries itself in our memory in a special way. What better moment to freeze in time with a song than your wedding day?

The type of music you pick can set the tone of your wedding and the way the music is delivered also affects the atmosphere.

There’s nothing like having a Harpist to get a crowd excited for the elegance of the occasion and create a sense of sophistication. I may sound biased in saying that the Harp is a beautiful instrument that truly elevates the feeling of the moment. Harpists are entertaining to watch and provide a focal point.

Now, to be fair! A DJ does have advantages if you are looking for a different ambiance! As you know, a DJ can create a setlist that will include hits from all genres and for all generations, and they can create more variety to suit everyone’s different tastes.

The Second Thing to Keep in Mind is The Venue’s Space.

You want to either check directly with your venue of choice or with your wedding planner to be sure that your particular location would be able to accommodate a musician. Check whether your venue has any restrictions on the number of pieces of equipment you may bring in and whether there are any limitations on the electrical power supply or noise levels. If you are having your wedding outdoors, make sure to still check with the venue! Keep in mind that some landmarks don’t allow large speakers to be used on their premises!

The Third Thing to Consider is the Cost

When it comes to your wedding day it is of the utmost importance to know your budget and stick to it. That’s why it’s so necessary to decide what’s important to your day early on so that you have time to find exactly what you want for your special moment.

Many couples will choose a DJ over live music for their wedding because generally, a DJ is less expensive to hire. However, a solo musician is different than hiring a wedding band.

Harpists are solo musicians. Because of that, the cost of hiring a Harpist for your wedding is not as costly as booking a wedding band. Another thing that will help cut down on cost is hiring a local musician for your wedding! Make sure to do your research and talk to others in the wedding industry! (Such as your wedding planner or wedding photographer.) Since wedding vendors spend so much time planning and attending weddings they are familiar with the wedding musicians in the area as well as the DJs!

Wedding vendors are a truly precious wedding resource at your fingertips!

Now, It Doesn’t Have to be Harpist Vs DJ!

If You Are Having Trouble Deciding Between the Two, There’s Another Option.

You can have both! Many couples opt for a wedding musician for their ceremony and cocktail hour. Then hire a DJ to play their reception! This is a great option for those that want to have a different ambiance for their ceremony and cocktail hour or their first dance, but also want a more party ambiance for the reception itself! I love when couples do this! Because it takes into consideration the different moments of celebration on a wedding day! The ceremony, cocktail hour, and even the first dances/dinner music feel like a different kind of celebration than the rest of the reception! It’s a moment worth celebrating and honoring each part of the wedding day with the ambiance and feeling that you want should be the ultimate goal.
